Living close to the Twin Cities, it’s not very often that we get the opportunity to see the aurora. They aren’t something that you can really schedule visiting, it’s just not something that’s easy to do with the lack of real predictability of when solar storms are strong enough to cause them. And then there’s clouds, and light pollution, a moon that’s too bright, etc, etc. All things that can prevent seeing the Northern Lights. For being visible in Northern Minnesota, there are lots of people who live in Minnesota who never get to see them.
I have known for a long time that this was something that Edwin’s wanted to experience. I downloaded a collection of apps, joined some local groups, and had been watching at waiting. I asked Edwin if he wanted to go on a car ride, and we took the youngest two up to Lake Millie Lacs and waited for the show to start.
It was gorgeous, everything you ever imagine it to be. An experience that I hope we can try to have more often (I would LOVE to get a chance to watch the Northern Lights from the cabin some day. Maybe next time we’ll head up there and spend the night, lay in the hammock and just watch the lights and stars. Hopefully next time.
